This week mid-quarter grades were posted. I would encourage you to take a look at Zangle this weekend and have a conversation with your child about how their classes are going. Be sure to praise successes and discuss challenges. If you have any concerns, please first have your child communicate with directly with teachers. Secondly, you can follow up with an email and/or request a time to meet for additional clarification and discussion. If there is anything that I can do to facilitate any communication or better support your child during Advisory, please let me know.
Additionally, during our staff meeting today, it came to our attention that a population of our students are facing some difficult times - be it financially, medically, or emotionally. It breaks my heart to hear of any student struggling and always wish that there was more that I could do. That said, I have found food to be a great community builder and spirit booster, especially among adolescents. This evening on my way home I swung into Costco and purchased some easy to grab non-perishable snacks to start an Advisory Pantry. The large boxes of individual servings of oatmeal even have an additional $3 instant rebate!
I am inviting anyone interested or able to contribute to our pantry. There is absolutely no pressure or requirement and I will not be asking students individually for contributions. Our pantry will be open to our Advisory and ANY student that needs a little extra snack during the day with ZERO stigma attached. Just a friendly and kind gesture from our Advisory to our community. If we are finding this fills a need and is successful, I will send out periodic emails when our shelves are looking sparse. Of course we will accept contributions anytime you make a Costco run or see a good deal at the grocery store.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend - I can't believe we are already nearing the end of February!
