Students are expected to begin writing this weekend and dedicate a minimum of one hour to their novel writing adventure.
National Novel Writing Month organizes events where children and adults find the inspiration, encouragement, and structure they need to achieve their creative potential. Our programs are web-enabled challenges with vibrant real-world components, designed to foster self-expression while building community on local and global levels.
This November we will be participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).
NaNoWriMo is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a complete novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought fleetingly about writing a novel.
In order to participate, students will need to set-up an account. This is done quite easily on the website at: http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/
Students should register with a username as follows: lastname.firstname
They will need one time access to an email address to verify their account and complete their registration. If students do not have an email account of their own, they will need to use a parent's. Again, this is a one-time verification and students will not need to use the email address again after creating an account.
After creating their account, they can join our classroom at "Heidi's November Novel Writing Challenge".
Today we explored the site and discussed making reasonable word count goals. After a weekend quick-start, we will be ready to hit the ground running on Monday!
