Our final writing piece for the semester will be a performance / oral language composition. Students have the option to work collaboratively or individually and will be performing their original work on the final two days of class.
Use a Power Number Thesis Statement:
There are three _______________ reasons stores should/should not be open on Thanksgiving.
Provide three reasons that support your thesis. Include an explanation for each reason. Finish with a conclusion. Your paragraph should be eight sentences long.
Due in class tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7th. We will highlight the paragraph in class.
November in National Novel Writing Month! Several Polaris classrooms engage in this tradition and we are excited to be among them.
By Tuesday, November 1st, you will need to be signed up in our classroom.
This is a very common question in an interview. It can also catch applicants off guard if they are not prepared. Take some time to review your resume. Think about how you would briefly and effectively answer this question. How will you highlight your strengths and give a positive first - and hopefully lasting - impression?
After some continued work in class and practice, you will video your response in a "mock interview" situation and upload it to the "Speaking & Listening" tab in your Digication MSLA Portfolio.
Due date is still to be determined.
This week we are writing entry-level resumes highlighting personal qualifications over experiences. This is most appropriate for young students without lengthy work experiences. Of course, you should also include any relevant work experience - paid and/or volunteer. You may also include things such as:
At the very top or in the most prominent position, you should include four to five well thought out and varied "highlights of qualification' statements. Examples of such statements are provided in the packet discussed in class.
The purpose of this assignment is to create a starting point for your resume. This document will grow and change over time. You should also take the time to customize your resume for the opportunity, job, or scholarship for which you are applying. This first resume will give you a "base model" to work with.
Resume templates are available in Google Docs.
Design teams reviewed each group members draft paragraph detailing the team's design. After individual revision, turn in your 2nd draft with corrections and/or improvements. Look at the sample paragraph composed today in class as an example.
DUE: Wednesday, October 12
Should ronald Cancel His Appearances?
There has been a steep rise in clown-related disturbances. The McDonald’s Corporation should temporarily cancel Ronald McDonald’s appearances. The safety of Ronald should be a priority. There have been several reports of clown hunting and continued appearances could put him at harm. It could draw unwelcome attention at community events. A clown siting could distract from the intention of the event. It could damage Ronald’s reputation. The current reports about scary clowns could frighten children and they might start associating McDonald’s with bad clowns and that could hurt their business. In the interest of the safety and well-being of both Ronald and McDonald’s customers, it would be best for Ronald to hold off on public appearances for now.

Use the graphic organizer provided in class to research three substantiated reasons, details, or facts that support your thesis statement for this position paragraph.
Your thesis should state whether your support the PFD program as it is, think it should be ended, or think it should be changed.
Your reasons, details, and facts should come from three different sources and be followed with an elaboration, explanation, or example for each. You may refer to the sample paragraphs we wrote about homecoming as an example.
Your completed graphic organizer, minus the conclusion, is due on Monday, October 10th.
